Now that Will has a bike, he has the independence and freedom to get to work without spending money on gas and car maintenance. He also enjoys being able to make better food choices, visit friends, and get out and enjoy Charleston by bike.
In Charleston County alone more than 20,000 people live in poverty. For people struggling to support themselves and their families, the cost of owning a car can be prohibitive. Bicycles provide an affordable and efficient option for getting around the Lowcountry. Second Chance Bikes is working to make bicycles accessible for people of all income and ability levels.
With a little work we turn used bikes into reliable transportation for people who need it the most.
We keep our recipients rolling with regular free pop-up maintenance clinics.
In partnership with the City of North Charleston and generous local businesses, we are providing racks across the city.
Our work relies on donations from people like you. Your donation helps us pay for our space and helps buy supplies that we need to get our bikes back up and running.
