Frequently Asked Questions
How will my donation be used?
All bikes donated to Second Chance Bikes will be used to support our mission, but not every bike will be come a Second Chance Bike. Bicycles that are too far gone to be refurbished into reliable transportation will be stripped for parts and the frames and wheels are salvaged so very little goes to the landfill. Most bicycles in good working condition are refurbished and provided free of charge to people receiving services from partner agencies. Finally, some bicycles are refurbished and sold in our Second Chance Bicycle Thrift Shop. These bicycles are sold at affordable prices and funds support our donation programs.
Is my donation tax-deductible?
Yes! Second Chance Bikes is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. All donations are tax-deductible and we will be glad to provide you with a tax receipt when you make your donation.
Will someone be able to help unload the bike?
Yes. We will have a group of volunteers who can safely unload and process your donations. All volunteers will be masked and will follow social distancing guidelines. We are committed to keeping everyone safe during the bike drive.
What if it rains?
Our staff and volunteers will get a little wet! We will still be there but if you would rather stay dry, feel free to drop off your donation any time at our warehouse on the old Navy Base in North Charleston at 2750 Avenue B North, Building 1601.
